7th century Classic Maya bas relief, God L' or the 'Smoking God', Temple of the Cross, Palenque, Chiapas, Mexico. God 'L' is associated with the Maya'Underworld' or Xibalba and commerce / trade. He is depicted as elderly god and is often seen smoking something like a cigar. Nineteenth century cast made in Mexico by archaeologist and explorer Claude-Joseph Désiré Charnay.
