170721-N-PQ607-381 PACIFIC OCEAN (July 21, 2017) - USS Chafee (DDG 90) shoots the Mk 45 Mod 4, 5-inch/62-caliber lightweight gun while participating in a sinking exercise (SINKEX) of a decommissioned Peruvian vessel. Chafee is deployed to the 4th Fleet area of responsibility in support of UNITAS 2017. UNITAS is an annual exercise that focuses on strengthening our existing regional partnerships and encourages establishing new relationships through the exchange of maritime mission-focused knowledge and expertise throughout the exercise.
