A French iron casket, circa 1600. Rectangular casket with highly cambered, hinged lid. One strap fitting with movable carrying handle. Two false hinges and a hidden keyhole on the front. The strap of the lid with a hidden locking mechanism. The borders show engraved tendril decoration, few remnants of the gilding. A crowned coat of arms on the front. The interior lined with green velvet. Comes with the matching hollow shank key and tool for unlocking the hidden mechanism.
