The assassination of Julius Caesar by a conspiracy by a group of Roman senators called the Liberators, during a meeting of the Senate at the Theatre of Pompey in Rome on the Ides of March (March 15) 44 BC, Rome, Italy. The senators feared Caesar's unprecedented concentration of power during his dictatorship was undermining the Roman Republic, At least 60 senators were party to the conspiracy, led by Marcus Brutus, Gaius Cassius and Decimus Brutus.
