Diagnostic pelvis X-rays. Set of three X-rays of a human pelvis and hip joints. The main X-ray of the pelvic bones, lower spine and hips is a frontal (anterior) view, as is the hip view at lower left. The X-ray at lower right is a view of the hip rotated, with the leg moved sideways away from the body. The hip joint (the acetabulofemoral joint) is a synovial ball-and-socket joint between the femur (thigh bone) and acetabulum of the pelvis. The rounded femoral head is the 'ball' that fits into the 'socket' of the acetabulum. The hip supports the body during standing and walking or running. X-rays such as these help diagnose conditions such as arthritis or hip injuries.
