Solar flare, composite SDO image

Composite image composed of data from several wavelengths of light, showing an category solar flare (red, upper right) erupting from the surface of the sun. A flare is defined as a sudden, rapid, and intense variation in brightness. A solar flare occurs when magnetic energy that has built up in the solar atmosphere is suddenly released. Imaged by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), on the 30th of April 2022.
