Water lily flowers. Several different species from the Nymphaeaceae family are shown here. Artwork from Volume 1 of the 1868 edition of 'Illustrations of the natural orders of plants with groups and descriptions' by the British botanical illustrator Elizabeth Twining (1805-1889). Twinning's illustrations were based on observations made in botanical gardens, such as the one at Kew in London. This work was originally published in two volumes in 1849 and 1855, and then republished in 1868.
