In conclusion I wisli to thank the members of the several committees appointed to_ inspect seedlings for the time and energy so generously be- stowed on our behalf. Their work I consider of great importance and their lindings above reproach. We all heartily thanli the horticultural pa- pers who have so kindly devoted space to our notices and the American In- stitute for providing the exhibition hall for this occasion and whose of- ficers have faithfully looked after the many details incident thereto. We are also under obligations to those who have given us support and en- couragement by donating special prizes. Secretary Johnson's Report. The work done by your secretary during the past year has been the pre- paring of the report of the proceed- ings of the seventh annual meeting, a copy of which was sent to every member, also 12 copies to the Massa- chusetts affiliated societies. Every member was also sent a schedule of the special prizes to be awarded at the annual meeting in New Tork, to- gether with a statement of dues. A number have responded by paying their dues on time, but a big majority is still to be heard from. It would facilitate the work of the secretary if every member would pay his dues as quickly as possible after receiving the statement. The examining committees are doing good work, but there seems to
