Brazilian dancers and performers join in the Lavagem da Rua 46 (Cleansing of 46th Street) procession prior to the Brazil Fest

Brazilian dancers and performers join in the Lavagem da Rua 46 (Cleansing of 46th Street) procession on Saturday, September 5, 2009, the day before the annual Brazilian Festival. Based on a mystic tradition from the 18th century in Bahia, when an image of Christ was brought from Portugal and arrived in Brazil, the cleansing procession was brought to the United States to further an understanding of Brazilian culture.
