The Aviemore sled dog race is now the largest event of its kind in the UK, with over 1,000 sled dogs and 250 mushers. The race features teams of between two and eight dogs pulling their musher on a sled or trike around a four to seven mile trail. The weather and ground conditions on the trails determine whether the racers will adopt their three wheeled trikes or sleds. A good firm snow base is hoped for when the event takes place towards the end of January each year. The scenery surrounding this sponsored event is spectacular from snow covered mountains to loch side.
