Amongst the party are ayoung lady and a portly gentleman who stands by her to consulthim in the game. On the opposite side of the table sits a merryfellow with a card in his hand; and the remaining person standsby, smoking his pipe. A youth is seen entering the room with acandle in his hand; and on the landing of a stair case above him,are two persons also with a light. A company of seven persons ison the opposite side of the apartment, one of whom is a womanopening oysters. Suppl. p. 5 10, n° 49) : « Children scrambling for fruit. — This picture verry nearly cor-responds with n° 55, Vol. IV, but is very superior to that in qualityand consits of eleven figures instead of nine. In the centre sits ayoung woman in an antique chair, holding a child upright on herlap, who is much delighted at seeing four children scrambling forapples, which an old woman is throwing from an upper windowinto the room, and two of these young ones are struggling togetheron the ground. A man with a pipe in his hand, and a youngwoman, stand by the chimney, observing the fun. On the oppositeside, are the grand-father and grand-mother of the family. »
