Penfield Reef lighthouse is believed to be haunted by the ghost of Keeper Jorden, who was bringing presents to the mainland to his family for the holidays, got caught in a gale storm, and drowned. Many accounts have described the keeper's ghost in the tower, and he has helped mariners who described him during storms, guiding them to safety.
