Joe Cocker, born 20 May 1944 at Sheffield. Started at the age of 15 with lesser bands. His first single was a Beatles cover 'I'll Cry Instead' and his second Beatles cover 'With A Little Help From My Friends' from Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band topped the UK singles chart in Nov 1968 for one week. In 1969 he appeared at the Woodstock Festival and included 'Delta Lady' in his songs, this song became a hit for him later in the UK. A further Beatles song was a hit for him 'She Came in Through The Bathroom Window' from their Abbey Road album. In 1969 he was featured on the Ed Sullivan show and his winning songs were ' Up Where We Belong', 'You Can Leave Your Hat On' and 'Unchained Melody'. He played at the 1994 Woodstock Festival and went down well. He is known as "The Sheffield Soul Shouter".
