They begin the season with the Plum blossoms in March, following with the Cherry blossoms in April, Pseonies, Wistarias and Azaleas in May, Iris in June, Convolvuli and Lotus in August, ending the year with Chrysanthemums and Maples in November. Our Mr. Wm. F. Dreer, when in Japan during the Flower Festival season of 1895, visited Ikeda near Osaka, where the principal Pseonia growers are located. In an enclosure of over three acres the specialists in this plant had collected their choicest varieties for exhibition About 10,000 plants were in full bloom early in May. The grounds were surrounded by tea booths filled with admiring and delighted Japanese, viewing the blossoms and taking refreshments. A selection was then made of the finest and most distinct varieties of double blooms, which measured from nine to twelve inches across. To be successful in the cultivation of the Poeonia, plenty of moisture and manure should be given to the plants. Our collection embraces twelve of the most distinct varieties, including the various r shades of rose, pink, crimson, scarlet, white and purple. Both the double and single form of P. ten- uifolia are interesting and handsome, not only on account of their rich crimson flowers, which resemble in color the Gen.
