PEDAGOGY Pedagogy is an essential department of a Teachers Train-ing School. The instruction in this department deals with thefundamental principles of education; the relation of the differ-ent branches of knowledge to one another and to the mind, andthe method by which the human powers may be trained. Itdeals with the theory and the practice of East Carolina Teachers Training School 29 The Department of Pedagogy in this school devotes sometime to a study of the fundamental laws of mind, that the stu-dents may utilize their knowledge of these mental activities intheir own study. This includes within its scope a study ofChild Development and How to Teach Children to Study. The Teaching process is emphasized with the aim of enablingthe students to understand and make a practical application ofthe principles involved in good teaching and the methods em-ployed to realize the goal in the process of education. PRIMARY EDUCATION This course covers the work of the first three grades and con-sists of a careful study of all primary subjects, aided by obser-vation of work done in these grades.
