BATTLE-FIELD OF MINE RUN, VA. Ford on the Rapidan, and bivouacked. At half past three the nextmorning, November 27, it crossed the Rapidan at Melville Mines Fordand continued south by Parkers Store to the intersection of theSpottsylvania Road with the Orange Plank Road. The ammunitiontrain was attacked by Hamptons Legion who were repulsed by theSixth Wisconsin. Pursuing the march through the Wilderness, the AFTER GETTYSBURG—1863. 21 3 Iron Brigade bivouacked for the night near Robinsons Farm on theold turnpike. At four oclock the next morning, November 28. they advancedto Locust Grove and halted. At eight oclock the Twenty-fourthMichigan and the New York Sharpshooters advanced as skirmishers,deploying six companies and advancing two miles, taking sixprisoners. The next morning, November 29, the entire Iron Brigademoved forward to the crest overlooking Mine Run and the enemysworks opposite.
