Campofelice di Roccella, Sicily, Italy - 23 September 2019; Due to its subtropical climate, diverse topography and many microclimates, Sicily has a wide range of plant types - these range from temperate and Mediterranean through to subtropical and tropical. Here we see, not dragon skin - unfortunately - but the fearsome spiked bark of a Kapok (Ceiba) Tree (Ceiba pentandra) spotted in Campofelice di Roccella on the north coast of the Island, facing the Tyrrhenian Sea. It's a long way from its native environment in central and south America. I love natural, abstract patterns like this! I hope you do, too.
