Calyx 5-toothed. Corolla funnel-shaped, 5-lobed: sta- mens 4, ( Ticoma) Trumpet-Creeper. Tree, with simple heart-shaped leaves, and white flowers (purple-tinged or dotted) in large panicles. Calyx 2-lipped. Corolla bell-shaped and 2-hpped; stamens generally 2, with vestiges of one or three others, ( Catdlpa) Catalpa. Rank clammy herb (cult, and wild S. W.) with wingless seeds in a large and long-pointed fruit, the outer part of which is fleshy and falls off' from the inner fibrous-woody part: this is crested and long-beaked, the beak at length splitting into 2 hooked horns.
