There was a big demand last week for decorations for social functions. The cold weather interfered with the deliv- ery of palms for such events, but there was a big demand for flowers. The number of social events is increasing and some unusually large ones have been held. Also, there have been a great many banquets and, invariably, the tables have been decorated with flowers. The dark, cold weather and an ex- ceedingly heavy fall of snow had a serious effect on the market. There is a shortage and an improvement in the weather conditions is needed. Club Meeting. The Toronto Retail Florists' Club held its regular meeting Monday, Janu- ary 12. President Dillemuth occupied the chair. It was decided to hold the annual dance February 9 at the Metro- politan Club rooms. Miss M. Gafl&kin was reported on the sick list. A resolution of sympathy for Sim- mons & Son was passed. In acknowledg- ing it, Mr, Simmons stated that they had an extremely heavy loss, as prac- tically the whole stock waa destroyed by fire, smoke and water. The whole store will require refitting, redecorating and restocking. It was a pleasure to have those in the same business in the city offer their help on the day of the fire and it was greatly appreciated.
