The bronze statue of Fred Trueman, one of cricket's greatest bowler, stands in the Leeds and Liverpool canal basin in Skipton, North Yorkshire. The bronze statue is by the sculptor Graham Ibbeson. It was unveiled on 18th March 2010 by Veronica Trueman, his second wife. Trueman was a Yorkshireman and played for his county, Yorkshire County Cricket Club, as well as his country. He was no stranger to controversy both on and off the field. He frequently clashed with the Cricket Establishment. He bowled fast right arm and was the first bowler to take 300 wickets in his Test career. His nickname was "Fiery Fred" which was appropriate on and off of the pitch. His name is often associated with another English fast bowler - Brian Statham. Together they formed one of the most famous bowling partnership in Test cricket.
