Tristan (also spelled Tristam) and Isolde (also spelled Iseult) is the tragic story of love between the Cornish knight Tristam and the Irish princess Isolde. When Tristan is bringing Isolde back to marry his uncle Mark, king of Cornwall, the two drink a potion and fall in love with one another. This illustration, dating to the early 1900s, shows the two, with Isolde holding the cup with the potion.
