Ideal summer weather prevailed here last week and brought about a plenti- ful supply of stock, which was met by a volume of business that spoke well for the early autumn trade. Frost September 22 occasioned some hustling on the part of florists who bad planned on outdoor stock to supply an abun- dance of flowers for their decorative work last week, which was exceedingly heavy. However, the greenhouse flow- ers fulfilled their mission well, the chrysanthemums arriving in large num- bers and of excellent quality. Mon- rovia was elegant and Golden Glow and October Frost held about equal places in rank. Milady, Killarney and Ward roses were used extensively in the wedding decorations and bouquets. Or- chids are becoming more plentiful and Beauties are being used extensively. Carnations are perceptibly larger and finer. Various Notes. The Bradley Flower Shop has had a fine showing of Beauties and cat- tleyas lately. W. J. & M. S. Vesey anticipate a heavy crop of chrysanthemums this season. They are cutting a number of fine orchids from their plants. The greenhouses of IVank Knecht & Co., on South Fairfield avenue, are making a good showing. Some excel- lent yellow chrysanthemums are being cut and their carnation stock is good. The Flick Floral Co. has been busy for the last two weeks with a number of decorations and openings for large stores. Among them was the de- partment store of Wolf & Dessauer, the largest store in northern Indiana. * Several cases of wild smilax and quan- tities of oak foliage, in both the green and russet, were used, with autumn flowers in great quantitie
