Looking carelessly upon this creature, we do not perceivethat it ever breathes, for it lies plunged over the mouth inwater. It is never seen to open its mouth ; there is no motionin its sides like breathing ; in short it does not seem tobreathe; and when it is provoked, (or rather through fear,)though it keeps its mouth clo
