Biology: Inhabits open steppes. Often found in Trans-Baikal, rarely in Tuva. Occupies zones of grass steppes. Beedes crawl from June to August. Maximum number observed June-end and first half of July. For example, during systematic collections in different years, 89 beetles were caught during summer—25 () in June, 62 () in July, and 2 () in August. Larvae live in the upper soil layer, make galleries mainly in the sod, and feed on tissues of herbaceous plants. Before pupation (laboratory study) the larvae make a 20-mm long and 10-mm wide cell in the soil. Larval weight, based on three individuals of last instar, 224-400 Please note that these images are extracted from scanned page images that may have been digitally enhanced for readability - coloration and appearance of these illustrations may not perfectly resemble the original Cherepanov, A.
