I am inclined to beheve that his grantwas for a strip around the head of New Meadows River,and included the site of New Meadows Inn of Stevens is said to have bought a piece of landfrom him, which might have been on the west side of thehead of the river, thus giving him an outlet. Stevenscertainly owned land there, for in describing his secondpurchase from the Indians he bounds it on the east byhis own land, and New Meadows River is not mentioned. 24.
