A troop of Gelada baboons forage for food against a backdrop of the Semien Mountains National Park.


The Gelada Baboon (Theropithecus gelada), is a species of Old World monkey found only in the Ethiopian Highlands, with large populations in the Semien Mountains. The Semien National Park a UNESCO World Heritage Site lies in northern Ethiopia. Famous for its natural beauty and hiking, the tallest peak is Ras Dashen at 4,543 mtrs. The predominent wildlife in the mountains include the Walia Ibex, Gelada Baboons and a few Ethiopian wolves.
