Stereomicroscope photograph of the head of a worker bumble bee, Bombus terrestris, feeding on the nectar of a flower of Centaurea macrocephala. The tongue of the bee can be seen seeking out the nectary glands. As it forages for food it collects pollen on the hairs of its body, which is then carried from flower to flower. Some of the grains may be brushed off onto the stamens of another plant, thereby pollinating the flower. Magnification at 35mm size.
