A brief history of the Stars and stripes, official newspaper of the American expeditionary forces in France . of this company, and shipped from there by railway expressto the nearest railroad station to the agentfor whom they were intended. The agent, knowing about when his papers were due, came down to the railroad station in hismachine, waited for the train, and when itcame loaded his papers and left for the unitto which he was to deliver the papers. Thiswas often quite a distance from the railroadstation and the roads were not always in thepink of condition. Then he went to workdistributing the paper, and many times didit under fire. There were many thrillingtales to tell when these fellows got together,of shells bursting all about their flivvers, andtearing up the landscape within sight whilethey were peacefully doing the newsboy some areas there were a number of agentsstationed. Not too much can be said for the men whowere responsible for getting the paper to itsreaders. That there were no casualtiesamong them was more a matter of good luckthan a shirking of dutv under any conditions.
