The course ofpublic school training terminates with graduation from the CityCollege, Polytechnic Institute or the Girls High Schools. Teachers entering the educational service are not only re-quired to be proficient along general lines, but they must takea two-year course of training in the Teachers Training School. There were 84,000 pupils and 2,064 teachers during thelast scholastic year. There are 144 schools of all kinds.
