Metropolitan Alexius surrounded by scenes from his life, Russian, 1480. Alexius (c1296-1378) became Metroloitan of Kiev and all Russia in 1354. He established the Cathedral of the Archangel Michael in Moscow in 1365, as well as several monasteries. He was canonised by the Russian Orthodox Church.
