Hendricks Head Lighthouse on the western side of Southport Island, on the Sheepscot River in Maine, was established in 1829. It was rebuilt in 1875, and was decommissioned and sold in 1935. However, in 1951, when electricity reached the area, the private owners of the lighthouse and quarters allowed the Coast Guard to automate and recommision the light.
