Duodenopancreatectomy drawing
Illustration of a cephalic pancreaticoduodenectomy with pancreaticojejunal anastomosis (reconstruction by CHILD). This intervention allows the ablation of the head of the pancreas (right side). It is most commonly recommended for treating tumours on the head of the pancreas, the common bile duct (choledocus), ampulla of vater and the duodenum. It involves the excision of the head of the pancreas, all the duodenum and often the lower third of the stomach. The gall bladder is also removed during this intervention, which has no consequences on digestion. Once the PCD has been performed, the following connections have to be restablished to ensure normal digestive functions : the common bile duct with the intestin (biliodigestive anastomosis), the left pancreas with the intestin (pancreaticojejunal anastomosis), part or all of the stomach with the intestin (gastrojejunal anastomosis).
