Vardø (Norway)

Vardø is Norway’s eastern-most town and is further east than St. Petersberg or Istanbul. It is a fishing port and home to many Russian immigrants. The fort was constructed in 1737 by King Christian VI. The Russian cannons were captured by the Germans during WWII. Outside the fortress stands a statue of King Haakon VII.
