The power purchased from this transmission com-pany by the Rochester Railway is transmitted to Station No. 6and distributed from this to other substations which are sup-plied with regulating pole rotary converters. A current trans-former, inserted in one of the lines, controls a contact-makingammeter which controls the motor circuit of a motor-operatedrheostat inserted in the regulating pole field circuit of the ro-tary converter. When the power taken exceeds the fixed amountthe contact-making ammeter closes the motor circuit and startsthe motor. Resistance is thereby cut into the rotary regulating. Inter-Pole Rotary Converter Used in Rochester pole field circuit to reduce the potential and cause therotary converter to take less power. When the power is re-duced to the fixed amount the contact-making ammeter breaksthe motor circuit and the cutting of resistance into the rotaryfield circuit ceases. When the total power taken is less thanthe fixed amount the contact-making ammeter starts the motorin the reverse direction, cutting resistance out of the rotaryfield circuit, increasing the voltage and the load on the rotary. Inappearance and general principles the new meter is similar tothe steam and air flow meters which were, described and illus-trated on page 912 of the Electric Railway Journal for May21, 1910.
