Head twice as long as broad; snout as long as or shorter than eye, which is 2| to 3 times in length of head and equals interorbital width; mouth extending to below anterior fourth of eye; 6 canines, outer largest, in front of each jaw, followed by a narrow band of minute teeth ; lateral teeth small; cheek naked. Gill-rakers rather short, 9 on lower part of anterior arch. Dorsal XVI-XVIII 6-7 ; spines subequal from the fifth, about f length of head ; longest soft rays about J length of head. Anal VIl-IX 5-6 ; last spine as long ns longest dorsals. Pectoral about f length of head. Ventral reaching origin of anal or a little beyond. Caudal rounded. Caudal peduncle deeper than long. Fiff. Uniform brown above, whitish beneath; a black opercular spot; fins brown, without spots, dorsal tipped with black, ventrals black at the end. Total length 45 millim.
