The Maldon Mud race returns to Promenade Park in the Essex to celebrate 50 years since the race was first originated, when back in 1973, a local man was challenged to don a tuxedo to serve a meal on the bank of the river. This later led to a race across the river where locals had to drink a pint from a waiting barrel of beer before racing back again The race is run on a 450 metre course across the River Blackwater and can only take place at low tide.
