Russell, Springfield, Mass.—Was with Pro-fessor Twining, who made the survey for the railroad toHartford from this city in 1838. Was clerk in the postoffice four years under Albert Morgan, postmaster, andpostal clerk between Boston and Albany in 1843. Wasappointed conductor by Superintendent James Barnes ofthe Western, now the Boston & Albany, Railroad in from the railroad service in 1857. At one timewas proprietor of the American House, which stood wherethe Boston & Albany granite building now is. Beere.—Taught school in South Wilbrahamand Monson, Mass., Somers, Conn., and Ithaca, N. Y.,about three years. He subsequently went to New Orleans,La., and engaged in the wholesale trade of wood and willowware and cordage. In the spring of 1861 he canie northa-nd settled at his old home, South Wilbraham, Mass., andengaged in farming. His health failing he soon retired frombusiness. He died June 19, 1866, in the 45th year of hisage. Lester F. Sikes, West Springfield, Mass.—Was atinsmith. His sad death was occasioned by being buriedin a well in which he was at work, Sept. 23, 1875, ^t theage of 59 years. Edwin T.
