Albert Einstein (1879-1955), German-Swiss-US physicist. His famous mass-energy equation resulted from his 1905 paper on Special Relativity. This paper, with his 1915 General Theory of Relativity, replaced the previously unshakeable Newtonian world view, rewriting the concepts of gravity, space and time. He won the 1921 Nobel Prize for Physics. He lived in the USA from 1933, encouraging the atomic bomb project and later campaigning for world peace. This sketch was drawn by J. H. Amshewitz in 1933, while Einstein visited the Spanish Embassy.
