South End of the Huachuca Mountains, 5 December, 2018

This is the view facing a little north of due west while standing on the west side of Montezuma Pass. The pass is created by a ridge between two valleys with views into Arizona and south toward Mexico. The trailhead for a hike up Coronado Peak is at the south end of the parking area from which this photo was taken. There are picnic benches, an outhouse, and a weather observation station. Often, Border Patrol vehicles park there to survey foot traffic from Mexico. Its height above the surrounding desert gives some relief from the heat at lower elevations.
