Harmonic wave scattering. Numerical simulations of the wave pattern produced by scattering of a harmonic wave front moving from upper right to lower left past a cylinder. In this series, which goes from left to right along each row and top to bottom, the wavelength is reduced by a factor of two between each image. The 'shadow', the diffraction effects, and the scattering effects, are more visible at smaller wavelengths. This simulation is shown as waves moving across a surface, but is based on the differential equations that describe dispersion-free electromagnetic waves. For related simulations, see C014/7193 to C014/7196.
