'The Tirolese Patriots Storming the Fortress of Kuffstein with their wooden Guns, 1816. Scene from the Napoleonic Wars. Austria was forced to cede the Tyrol to Bavaria after being defeated by Napoleon at Austerlitz in 1805. The Tyroleans rose up on several occasions to try to overthrow the Bavarians before finally being returned to Austrian rule at the Congress of Vienna in 1814.
