Aylesbury Vale, Buckinghamshire, UK. 1st June, 2021. A huge pile of woodchipped trees. HS2 have destroyed a large part of the ancient woodland at Jones Hill Wood for the construction of the High Speed 2 Rail link from London to Birmingham. Local residents and environmentalists are furious that Natural England granted a licence to HS2 to fell trees during the bird nesting season. Rare barbastelle bats also roost in the woods and much of their habitat has been destroyed by HS2. Credit: Maureen McLean/Alamy
