Laparotomy scar. Scar on the side of the body of a 24-year-old male patient following abdominal surgery to repair damage to the intercostal arteries. The intercostal arteries are found in the thoracic wall between the ribs. This man's arteries were damaged during a stabbing incident. The abdominal surgery to repair the arteries was performed through a long incision beneath his ribs on the right-hand side of his body (front of body is at right). The incision was closed with staples, the outlines of which can be seen. There is some residual bruising around the wound.
