This style of driving is not to becommended ; the sheep should be drivensteadily all the time, never at full gallop,but at an even, trotting pace and withoutexcitement. Very often the good driving dog becomesexcited when nearing the pen ; he movesabout more smartly ; his patience, whichhas stood him in good stead all round thecourse, is finished, and he makes a desperateeffort to pen the lot, with the result thattwo will break away and one only is forcedinto the pen.
