Marines inspect the thermal optic system on an Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV) aboard the Pililaau (TAKR-304), March 18, 2019. The Marines are preparing and inspecting the AAV’s for the maritime prepositioning force (MPF) offload for Exercise Balikatan 2019. Balikatan is a Tagalog phrase that means “shoulder-to-shoulder” and is an annual exercise between the military and the Armed Forces of the Philippines. The Pililaau is a Marine Corps MPF ship used to deliver Marine assets to areas in the Indo-Pacific region.
