These are the Burnet or Scotch rose {Rosa sjnnosissima), the Japanese rose {Ro- sa rugosa), and the trailing rose {Rosa Wichu/'aiana). The Scotch rose grows about two feet high and is exceedingly thorny ; it bears most charming, delicate yellow (sometimes white or pink), early blooming flowers, which are a dehght to the eye in early summer.
