Fluorescence lifetime imaging lasers. Lasers of a fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM) microscope in a medical research laboratory. FLIM produces an image based on the differences in decay rate of fluorescence from a fluorescent sample. It can be used as an imaging technique in confocal microscopy, two-photon excitation microscopy, and other microscope systems. As the lifetime of the fluorescent signal, rather than its intensity, is used to create the image, FLIM is able to probe to greater tissue depths than conventional fluorescence microscopy.
