The Reichstag building, the seat of the Bundestag or German Parliament, was originally built in 1884-1894 to plans by Paul Wallot, but was destroyed in the Reichstag fire of February 1933. The modern renovation by Sir Norman Foster took place in 1994-1999. It is the new cupola on the roof of the Reichstag that attracts so many visitors. The 800 ton steel and glass accessible structure has a forty meter high viewing platform that can be reached by traversing two spiral ramps.
