The Gothic, Romanesque and Byzantine Castillo Monumento Colomares, a monument in Benelmadena, Malaga Province, Spain.


The Castillo Monumento Colomares in Benelmadena, Malaga Province, Spain. The castle/monument constructed using Gothic, Romanesque, Byzantine adn Mudejar styles of architecture is a tribute to the fifth centenary of the discovery of America and Christopher Columbus. The edifice was financed by Dr Esteban Martin Martin, a surgeon and Spanish emigree to the USA, who bought the land in the 1970s, and went on to create and construct the castle, indeed he carved and sculptored many of the pieces. When he died in 2001 his ashes were interred in the church in the complex.
