Bombycina.—The " bomhyces " are mostly clumsy, heavy- bodied moths, with a very hairy covering to their abdomen and thorax. The antennse in the male are pectinated. The wings are broad and tectiform when at rest. The females are generally larger than the males; some are wingless, as in the Vapourer Moth (Orgyia antigua). The larvse are usually very hairy, and many spin a light cocoon ia which they pupate. The pupje are never found underground. The larvae of some species are gregarious, spinning large tents of silk under which they live (Lackey Moth) ; others—the Psychidm—form cases of foreign objects in which to live. There are several very injurious species in this division, but it also includes the valuable.
